Greek-American group to honor Strickland

Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland will be the guest of honor at a dinner today sponsored by the local chapter of American Hellenic Education Progressive Association to raise funds for scholarships.

The organization is the largest Greek-American association in the world, promoting "the ancient Greek ideals of education, philanthropy, civic responsibility, and individual excellence through community service and volunteerism."

Mr. Strickland will be receiving the Hellenic Humanitarian Award for "Excellence in Education" for his work protecting education funding and reforming Ohio's public education system.

The event will start at 6 p.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Central Community Center located at the northwest corner of Summit and Cherry streets. Tickets are $75 each and are available at the door.
