Port authority honored for virtual tour Web site

The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority has been honored by the American Association of Port Authorities for its recently created virtual tour of the Port of Toledo.

The local agency received an Award in Excellence in the AAPA's 2012 Communications Competition for tourtheport.com, a Web site that showcases Toledo's seaport terminals and their equipment, facilities, and capabilities. Photos, videos, and contact information for port terminals are featured.

The Web site was introduced last summer during the Journal of Commerce Breakbulk Conference in Antwerp, Belgium.

It was one of 15 communications projects chosen from among 101 entries submitted by 25 AAPA member ports.

It was created for the port authority by Avatar LLC, a Toledo firm.
