County commissioners approve 2 for zoo board

Lucas County commissioners Tuesday unanimously approved the reappointment of John Jones and the new appointment of Robert Vasquez to the Toledo Zoological Society's Board of Directors.

Mr. Vasquez will replace Baldemar Velasquez, who is leaving the board after two terms. Mr. Vasquez is a member of the Toledo Public Schools Board of Education along with being the director of special projects for The Twelve Inc. He holds a master's degree in public administration from the University of Toledo and has extensive education experience.

Mr. Jones' and Mr. Vasquez's terms will begin at the zoological society's board meeting in September and end in June, 2015. This is Mr. Jones' second three-year term on the board. He is president and chief executive officer of the Greater Toledo Urban League.

The Toledo Zoological Society's regulations provide for the appointment of members to its board of directors by the commissioners, subject to the acceptance and approval by the society's board.
