Knights rise to victory
Southview and St. Francis de Sales sparred back and forth on Friday night in a season-opening tilt at the Glass Bowl in which momentum easily switched sides. However, St. Francis quarterback David Nees hooked up with wideout Andrew Bonfiglio for a game-deciding 33-yard touchdown completion late in the game to give the Knights a 30-27 win over the Cougars. Whitmer runs through Spartans, wins in shutout
The Battle of Tremainsville Road turned out to be a one-way street Friday night at Start as the Whitmer Panthers dominated the host Spartans in a lopsided 60-0 victory to open the 2012 high school football season. Panthers senior running back Me’Gail Frisch (12 carries, 65 yards) got things rolling with three rushing touchdowns for Whitmer in the game’s opening 13 minutes, 3 seconds, while Start sputtered through a first half that ended with the Spartans behind 42-0. Comets rip Green Bears
Genoa’s first-year football coach Tim Spiess patrolled the sideline in a long sleeve dress shirt and a maroon tie, an ensemble that takes him down memory lane to the last time he was the man calling shots. Pennington strikes early, sparks Eagles to big victory
Josh Pennington appeared to be in midseason form, though he wouldn’t quite say so after the Clay football team’s 42-21 win over Northview. One of Pennington’s teammates, however, offered a similar superlative when asked about the junior quarterback. Pennington completed 13 of 21 passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns and was intercepted once in Friday’s win over Northview. Read more
