Letters to the Sports Editor

St. John's could honor 3 at new field

I appreciated the letter to the editor (Sept. 2) about including the name of Fred Beier in some fashion at the new Lyden Field at St. John's High School.

I know alumni who would like some way to honor Fred along with John Braucher and Joe Czernicki. Those three men were responsible for building the foundation of all the athletic programs at St. John's after the school first opened in 1965.

I have heard suggestions like Lyden Field at Braucher-Beier Stadium and Joe Czernicki Track at Lyden Field. Such titles would honor the memory of these three founders as well as that of the Lyden family, who have been such generous supporters of the school for many years.
