Fremont official cited in state auditor report

FREMONT — Fremont’s former parks and recreation director has been cited in a state audit of city finances for paying out $7,320 in city funds for purchases related to a running club of which he was an officer.

State law prohibits public officials from using their authority to secure items of value for organizations to which they are connected. But according to State Auditor State Dave Yost’s office, Marc Glotzbecker used city funds to sponsor races for the Fremont Elite Runners’ Club and purchase trophies, T-shirts, and hats for race participants.

Mr. Glotzbecker, who was appointed Fremont’s safety-service director in March, was a member and secretary of the runners’ club at the time. He has been on paid leave since Aug. 14 after city Auditor John Lauer, in a letter to Mr. Yost’s office made public this week, raised a number of issues about possible misuse of city funds in the recreation department under his leadership.
