Fremont mayor fires recently indicted city director

FREMONT — Fremont’s recently indicted safety service director was fired Monday by Mayor Jim Ellis.

Marc Glotzbecker, 41, is to be arraigned Nov. 2 in Sandusky County Common Pleas Court on two felony counts of theft in office for allegedly taking six Cedar Point tickets belonging to the city on June 15 and for taking $339 from the city last November, when he was Fremont’s parks and recreation director.

Mayor Ellis said a search for a replacement would begin in January, and Water and Wewer Maintenance Superintendent Robert Ward will act as interim safety service director.

“I hope that this is the toughest decision that I have to make as mayor of Fremont,” Mr. Ellis said in a statement.

“Marc did many positive things for the community since coming to live and work in Fremont. It is very unfortunate that his role in our city’s government had to end under these circumstances.”
