The final stage of the Fort to Port Highway between the beltways around Toledo and Fort Wayne, Ind., is scheduled to open today.

The Indiana Department of Transportation has scheduled a ribbon ceremony during the morning for the 8.3-mile section between Indiana State Rt. 101 and the I-469 beltway. InDOT officials said the road will open later in the day.

Ohio opened its final piece of the four-lane highway linking I-475 and I-469 in late August. Built in stages over the last nine years, the project included new roadway west of Defiance and east of Napoleon, where old U.S. 24 was a twisting two-lane road following the Maumee River.

A 2.9-mile section between the Ohio-Indiana border and Route 101 opened three years ago.
