Pedestrian hit by SUV in Monroe County dies

MONROE — Authorities are investigating a Thursday night incident in which a pedestrian from Newport, Mich., died after he was struck by a sport utility vehicle on North Telegraph Road in Frenchtown Township.

Timothy F. Walz, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene just south of Buhl Road shortly before 9 p.m., Monroe County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies said they believe Mr. Walz was trying to cross the road from the parking lot of the Gravel Pit Bar to the Kimberly Estates Mobile Home Park on the west side of North Telegraph Road.

He was hit by an SUV driven by Larry D. Reaume, 63, of Monroe, who was southbound on North Telegraph, the sheriff’s office said.

Witnesses and anyone with more information are asked to call the sheriff’s office at 734-240-7565.
