Officials from the North Toledo community group United North, the city of Toledo, and affordable housing agencies gathered today in North Toledo to dedicate a new senior housing complex on the site of the former Chase Elementary School.

The $7 million project, Cranes Landing, offers one and two bedroom apartments to seniors age 55 and older.

The brand-new complex at 3315 Mayo St. overlooks the Manhattan Marsh, home to cranes and other wildlife.

"This is a jewel in North Toledo," said Kathleen Kovacs, deputy director of Toledo's Department of Neighborhoods.

The building is part of United North's overall neighborhood plan and investments, which also includes 24 new single family homes nearby.
