Tax preparer charged with failing to file taxes

A Waterville income tax preparer has been indicted in U.S. District Court on charges he failed to file income tax returns on more than $1.3 million in income over four years.

Ronald D. Durbin, 72, principal officer and operator of Citizens Tax Service, is charged in the four-count, federal indictment with failing to file returns on income of $286,604 in 2006, $306,620 in 2007, $363,031 in 2008, and $348,881 in 2009.

The indictment alleges Mr. Durbin attempted to evade income taxes in those years by listing someone else’s name as the owner of his business and using someone else’s name on bank accounts to conceal his income.
