State suspends license of Lambertville lawyer

John C. Stewart, an area lawyer who lives in Lambertville, was suspended from practicing law in Ohio for two years for neglecting his clients.

The Ohio Supreme Court on Tuesday disciplined Mr. Stewart, who has been a lawyer in the state since 1989, for professional misconduct in handling the cases of five clients.

The complaints include allegations that Mr. Stewart didn’t provide services after getting paid, failed to communicate with clients and return their files, and withheld the payment of fees after he was terminated by clients.

Mr. Stewart’s suspension will be stayed in the second year if he completes the Ohio Lawyers Assistance Program. Mr. Stewart also is licensed in Michigan.
