ODOT opens bids for Anthony Wayne Bridge work

Oregon firm is apparent low bidder

An Oregon firm is the apparent low bidder for a state contract to renovate the Anthony Wayne Bridge, but an Ohio Department of Transportation official said it will be several more weeks before a construction schedule is known.

E.S. Wagner Co. bid $28,694,795.81 for the contract, which includes replacing two approach spans and a deck overhaul that ODOT officials say will force the structure, also known as the High Level Bridge, to close for 19 months. But with the project's overall completion date set for Oct. 31, 2015, it remains to be determined when that closing will occur.

Todd Audet, the district deputy director at ODOT's Bowling Green office, said officials still must review the bids that were opened today to ensure the apparent winner complied with all requirements and specifications. After that, a pre-construction meeting will be held to lay out the project's schedule.

Wagner's bid is 0.97 percent below ODOT's $28,975,000 estimate for the project. The other five bids opened today ranged between $29.2 million and $42.7 million.

ODOT also opened two bids for a repaving contract on I-280 between Lemoyne Road and Navarre Avenue. The lower bid, $8,449,495.90, was 7.1 percent higher than the state's official estimate of $7,889,000.
