Son of suspect in Cleveland kidnapped women was a BGSU student

BOWLING GREEN -- Bowling Green State University confirmed that a man named Ariel Castro graduated from the school in 2004 with a degree in journalism.

He is the son of the Cleveland kidnapping suspect with the same name, although the younger man is known as Anthony Castro and now lives in Columbus. He was enrolled from the fall of 1999 to spring of 2004.

When Anthony Castro was a journalism student, he wrote an article in June 2004 for Plain Press, a community newspaper for Cleveland’s west side neighborhoods, about the disappearance of Gina DeJesus. The story can be seen here.

Anthony Castro, 31, works for the Arlington Bank in Columbus, where he is a customer service and social media representative.

He and his father corresponded via Facebook, with his father commenting several times on pictures, including one of the accused Castro's grandchildren, Janyla. Ariel Castro wrote: "HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my Grand baby Janyla, love the flower on your hair...I Love You! xoxoxoxoxoxxoxoxx”

Ariel Castro wrote on his Facebook page April 11 that he was “Gramps for the fifth time, (2boys 1girl 2boys” indicating two of Anthony Castro’s siblings also have had children. On March 1, Ariel Castro wrote on Anthony Castro’s Facebook page: “A Father's Love for his Children is like none other.”

Ariel Castro’s last status update on his own Facebook page, posted on May 2 says: “miracles really do happen, God is good :)”
