Toledo Zoo reef tank beginning to take shape
CTY zooreno10p The open area directly across is the former home of moon jellies, sea dragons and "Nemo"-clown fish. The Pacific reef tank's foundation is poured at the Aquarium at the Toledo Zoo in Toledo, Ohio on May 9, 2013. The 90,000 gallon tank will become home to 1500 fish once the exhibit opens in summer of 2015. The 35 feet in diameter octagonal-shaped tank will have six viewing windows, including a bubble window, allowing visitors to see the tropical salt water denizens as they swim up to 12 feet above the viewing floor. The renovations of the Aquarium, which are designed to preserve the WPA-built exterior, are being paid for by a Lucas County tax levy, with additional funds from private contributions. The concrete workers from A.A. Boos will be working on 370 tons of concrete in the project. The Blade/Jetta Fraser THE BLADE/JETTA FRASEREnlarge

Concrete workers from A.A. Boos Co. of Oregon seemingly are dwarfed on Thursday by the confines of the Toledo Zoo’s 90,000 gallon Pacific Reef tank under construction at the zoo’s aquarium. The huge tank will be home to 1,500 fish once the exhibit opens in the summer of 2015. The octagonal-shaped structure will be 35 feet in diameter and will have six viewing windows, including a bubble window, allowing visitors to see tropical salt water denizens as they swim up to 12 feet above the viewing floor.
