The Blade’s Franck gets additional duties, title

Executive editor now interim general manager

Kurt G. Franck, executive editor of The Blade, was given on Wednesday the additional duties and the title of executive vice president and general manager of the business operations of the newspaper on an interim basis.

The change was announced by Allan Block, chairman of Block Communications Inc., which owns The Blade.

Mr. Franck, 60, has been executive editor since December, 2009. He joined The Blade in September, 2000, as managing editor of the newspaper.

Before joining The Blade, Mr. Franck was deputy managing editor/​executive news editor at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. He spent 16 years at the Sun-Sentinel involved in various editing positions and in the design of the news sections.

Prior to his time in Florida, Mr. Franck spent six years in a variety of assignments with United Press International, including bureaus in Columbus, Atlanta, Birmingham, Ala., and Orlando, where he covered the Kennedy Space Center. He also was UPI's Florida editor and Miami bureau manager.

A native of Newark, Ohio, Mr. Franck is a graduate of the Kiski School in Pennsylvania and Bethany College in West Virginia.
