A pest control company is spraying the offices of the Lucas County Prosecutor on Wednesday after a bedbug was found on a desk Tuesday.
Prosecutor Julia Bates said her office is open at the Lucas County Courthouse, although employees who are concerned about the spray for health reasons were permitted to go home or work offsite. She addressed the grand jury personally, telling them a single bug was found in the prosecutor's office on the second floor of the county courthouse.
“This is very unsettling because you don't really know what to tell your staff or what to tell the public,” she said. “It could have come from anywhere. We had them in one courtroom, and only that one courtroom was sprayed.”
Courtroom 8 on the fourth floor was closed for 24 hours last month after a bedbug was found there and the room and offices were sprayed.
Mrs. Bates said that with the upcoming Columbus Day holiday on Monday, the courthouse will be closed. She said she would like to see the entire building sprayed while it is closed for the long weekend.
