Bedford OKs '12-13 budget with deficit
The Bedford Board of Education on Thursday unanimously adopted a preliminary operating budget for the 2012-13 year that puts the district in a $1.4 million deficit.
The district is suffering from declining enrollment and a decrease in state aid, and has two deficit-elimination plans pending review with the Michigan Department of Education.
One plan would eliminate the operating deficit over two years, the other over four years.
In other business, Kim Hooper announced he would resign from the board after the Aug. 2 meeting.
Mr. Hooper and his wife are moving to Lenawee County.
