Boy, 16, charged with robbery of Taco Bell

BLADE STAFF

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with robbing a South Toledo fast food restaurant.

The teen reportedly went into Taco Bell at 1422 Broadway at 2:36 p.m. Wednesday and demanded money several times from an employee. The employee went to the back as if to get a register key, but instead called 911. The employee told police she saw the suspect pushing buttons on the register screen attempting to open the drawer, according to a Toledo police report.

The employee told police the suspect’s hands were at his sides and she did not know if he had a weapon; the police report does not say whether officers found a weapon.

When police arrived, the teen was still there. He was taken into custody, but initially transported to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center after complaining of a breathing problem. The teen did not appear to be in the Lucas County juvenile detention center Thursday.
