GARY, Ind.  — Authorities say a small plane from Smyrna, Tenn., has crashed in Gary about a mile south of Gary/Chicago International Airport.

Federal Aviation Authority spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory says in a recorded statement that "the local coroner will identify the deceased."

The Times of Munster reports the Lake County Coroner's office confirmed it was called to the scene but had no information to release immediately.

Gary police spokesman Cpt. Gabrielle King says the scene is "chaotic" but had no other immediate details about the crash.
