Stars sink Jackets in overtime for 5-4 home loss

ASSOCIATED PRESS

COLUMBUS — Loui Eriksson fought off two defenders to get his stick on a rebound and jammed it in 3:03 into overtime to give the Dallas Stars a 5-4 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night.

Eriksson was being held back by a pair of Blue Jackets but reached for the puck as he was falling and whipped it past goalie Sergei Bobrovsky for the winner.

Cody Eakin had given the Stars a 4-3 lead with 6:24 left in regulation when his shot from the right wing handcuffed Bobrovsky, the puck trickling through his leg pads and into the goal.

The Blue Jackets once again tied it — for the fourth time — when Nick Foligno tossed a hard pass from the left short boards to R.J. Umberger, who scored from the right hash with just 1:34 remaining to force overtime.

TRADES: Los Angeles traded struggling left wing Simon Gagne to Philadelphia for a conditional pick.

Gagne hasn't scored a goal in 11 games this season, his second with L.A.

Gagne missed several months with his latest concussion last season for the Kings, but returned in the Stanley Cup finals and contributed to the Kings' first championship.

Meanwhile, Dallas dealt right wing Michael Ryder and a third-round draft pick to the Montreal Canadiens for right wing Erik Cole.

The 32-year-old Ryder has six goals and eight assists in 19 games this year for the Stars. The 24-year-old Cole has three goals and three assists in 19 games for the Canadiens.
