Michigan State tops Valparaiso 65-54 in second round


AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Derrick Nix led all players with 23 points and 15 rebounds to help No. 3 Michigan State to a 65-54 win over No. 14 Valparaiso in an NCAA Midwest regional second-round game today at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Michigan State (26-8) led by as many as 27 points in the second half, and will face No. 6 Memphis in a third-round game Saturday at the Palace.

Ben Boggs led Valparaiso (26-8) with 15 points. The Crusaders finished 19 of 54 from the floor.
