Toledo Walleye suffer 5-2 loss to Cincinnati Cyclones

Team now down 0-2 in best-of-7 series

The Walleye lost their second straight playoff game tonight as Cincinnati blasted Toledo 5-2.

The Walleye have now fallen behind two games to none in the best of seven, opening-round ECHL playoff series. The Cyclones scored four straight power play goals to take control of the game.

David Pacan tallied a hat trick before a crowd of 4,191 at the Huntington Center. Taylor Ellington scored in the waning moments of the second period for the Cyclones. Matt Smyth added another power play goal with 12:20 left. Pacan scored his third with 10:44 remaining.

Toledo's Joey Martin ended Cyclones goalie David Houser's shutout bid with a goal with 8:24 left. Byron Froese also scored for the Walleye with 30 seconds remaining.

Cincinnati took a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series, which shifts to Cincinnati for three games next week.

The Walleye gave up a deflating second goal with 14.2 seconds left in the second period.

Cincinnati then seized a 3-0 lead as Pacan scored his second of the night 1:12 into the third on a power play goal. He added another power play goal with 10:44 left.

Toledo was outshot 31-28, including 18-5 in the second period. The Cyclones had seven power plays.

Walleye goalie Kent Simpson, who was pulled from game in the third, finished with 24 saves.

Cincinnati defeated Toledo 2-1 in double overtime in the series opener on Friday.

The teams meet again on Wednesday at U.S. Bank Arena.
